Sorry, I already have too many friends

Too many friends: swan

I had a wonderful day with you today, though I really shouldn’t have eaten so much apple pie. The swans would have liked more.

Again next week? I’d love to.

You want to be friends?

A cloud blocks the sun and the drone of flies competes with the noise of the highway.

Sorry, I already mumble mumble.

I already have too many friends.

Not a book review of The Star-Touched Queen

This is not a book review, but if it were it would be a review of The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi.

The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani ChokshiYou may recall that in my last post I committed to reading four recent (in a loose sense of the word) fantasy novels in February.

Easy, right? It’s not uncommon for me to finish a book in a day or two, so four in a month gives me 22 days’ leeway. Except February is a short month, which takes me down to 20 days, and I didn’t start until the 7th, so 14 days.

I also have two books I hope to beta read this month, which takes much longer than normal reading, so say 5 days apiece, and I’m down to 4 days’ leeway.

Win a fantasy book I’m reading this month

Stephen King has it right when he says, “If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.”

I read a lot, but the past few months I’ve been slack about reading recently released fantasy novels. This month I’ve set myself the goal of reading four new fantasy books. And because I know you love books as much as I do, if you sign up for either of my mailing lists by the end of February you could win one of them – your pick of the title in paperback or ebook form.

Gratitude for lovely things that can be weapons

Gratitude for a ladybird

Gratitude is a wonderful thing, as I understand it. It makes you feel better about life and generally gives you the fluffy bunnies. Today I want to talk about things I’m grateful for. But not just any things.

Lovely things that can also be used as weapons.

You might ask why. Don’t.

Reading about writing craft

Flower: writing craft

I told myself I wasn’t going to write about writing too often on this blog. Writing about reading about writing is different though, right?

Okay, I know it’s not really different. But this is my blog, and I can write about writing or write about reading about writing too much if I want to.

Now that that’s out of my system (you’d think I was drunk, wouldn’t you? I’m not, I promise), I want to talk about reading books on writing craft.

I wrote for a decade before I realised writing craft books were a thing. Now I love them and I read them all the time. Maybe you don’t. Hey, I’m not judging.
